Puppet Box

Here is the finished sock puppet storage kit. There are a few gaps that I still want to fill, but it is down to the family reunion wire. It is all packed up and filled with socks destine for greater things then foot warming. I will try to post pictures of the creatures my little cousins create.

Puppet Makeover

My family reunion is coming up and my grandmother came up with the idea of having a sock-puppet making workshop. I have a mini suitcase that is begging for a make over. So I though of covering it with a puppet collage, turning it in to a puppet making storage kit. I'm still in the process of collecting photos for it.

Saplings Roller Derby

I took off work an hour early to fund raise for North Star Quest Camp at the Redwood Saplings friends and family roller derby scrimmage. I had so much fun! The girls were amazing! Who says girls can't do contact sports? 11-17 year olds trained for ten weeks just for tonight, and it showed. NSQ is splitting the profits made with the roller derby. I think we did well but we have to pay for the food sold. I will let you know if we made any money for camp.

Meat-Free More Often

Reducing meat consumption is the best choice for long-term health. An article in the May issue of Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource, titled Meat-Free More Often, recommends eating a plant based diet to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The article states that women only require 45 grams of protein per day, and suggests consuming plant-based protein sources such as beans, nuts, seeds, quinoa, tofu, seitan, and tempeh instead of animal based protein.

Bless My Soul Vegan Dinner

The Humboldt Vegetarian Society had a gathering at Bless My Soul Cafe, which is not usually a vegan friendly place. For dinner I had the vegan special made for the night: jerked tofu with fried banana on top, and I chose collared greens and Cajun corn for my sides. For desert they made a special vegan option: strawberry rhubarb crisp with nondairy ice-cream on top.

Gypsy

I went to see Gypsy at the North Coast Repertory Theatre on its opening night. The show’s proceeds for the night went to the cast and crew and there was a champagne reception after the show. It was amazing! I had so much fun! Don’t let the picture fool you. The play was based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose, the famous striptease artist. It had a great vaudeville cabaret feel. Gypsy is playing until June 19. Definitely go see it if you can.
